Vylter and Broccoli Spheres
Doreon Needle
2020 Hypersleep Sessions
Broccoli Spheres: Low-light bops, late-80s Depeche
Mode vibe loops, and musings on how love is liquid —
freely flowing with constant volume. A trance or two
so we have room to muse.
Vylter: One night in March, I was watching 4-D virtual
tours of the North Cascades National Park and either
imagined or actually saw a spot along one of the
glaciers’ ridges demarcated as Doreon Needle.
An obsession began with discerning if this was in fact a
location or an object. I looked through maps and word
searches for this place and found nothing.
Many words mean many things. Sometimes less than
the sum of their parts, but often more. And so, with
this title that Broccoli Spheres and I seek to shine a
small light on life indoors during Covid-19: the highs,
the lows and the infinite space between extremes.
Song selection came easily for this collection, at first,
though making an album from the music we both
wanted to highlight on this release proved to be a
challenge when breaking tracks down into the
fragments that some of them are proved to be too
distracting a listening experience.
In other words, yes this is an album that exists digitally
as a one track ride through our lives, no commercials,
no mercy.
We experienced the loss of a loved one, here in our
home, even before news of the virus and social
distancing was fully appreciated in our area as a
preventative means of survival.
Grief allowed illness to intensify, cabin fever started to
set in, wanderlust shut all the way down in response to
pandemic...hence the 4-D virtual tour...and morale was
low.
However
The music was, as always, there.
And now it’s here:
43:25 of anthems, risks, jokes and bops.
Stay fed and play some Yahtzee,
